Evan Freeman is a musician, singer/songwriter from Calgary. His debut album Luna wraps post-rock and shoegaze production around dreamy pop hooks, evoking Radiohead, Beach House and Ride.
Evan and I first got in touch when I designed the cover art and packaging for Adam Van Wielingen’s album which Evan helped organize and release in Adam’s memory. Before we had got in touch to work on something for this release "Without Your Love” went through a series of changes over about 2 years through collaboration and reiteration that resulted in the song becoming this retro-futuristic anthemic jam by its latest stage. After first listening to it I had envisioned a crystalized metallic aesthetic reminiscent of an old school digital visualizer, something electric with movement communicated by motion and colour. Evan knew that he wanted to have two interlocking hands resembled in a meaningful way and trusted my intuitive direction and method of execution with the idea.
Evan along with director Eric Pauls, cinematographer Michael Janke, publicist Liam Prost and myself as production designer submitted a Storyhive proposal/pitch alongside the visuals I was able to create to Storyhive for a music video grant aimed to create a narrative rich visual for the release of WOYL. The song itself was released on February 2, 2019.
